current focus

This picture was captured from WTHI-TV tower cam on the date and time shown in the blue box. Center: east side of Terre Haute House. Right foreground: Ft. Harrison Savings and the Bement-Rae building. Together with the gray Federal building, upper right, and the red Tribune building, lower left, are the center of downtown Terre Haute. Hautians are trying to decide if this is a disposable core or the very heart of their city. Posted by Hello

Yesterday, all the THH proposals were tabled (not rejected, but will not be pursued) by the city. No surprise. When the city involved itself in an attempt to spur development or destruction at 7th and Wabash, it created an extra hurdle on the path to redevelopment. In addition to the rigorous scrutiny of mortgage and construction financiers, the city added its own standards as stated in the RFP then flunks all proposals for insufficient funding. The city has said, in effect, "Show me the money".
I'm not sure that is reasonable for a project of this scope. A more flexible financing approach to restoring the Terre Haute House might succeed outside of the control of beady-eyed bureaucrats.

I see what you mean. Absent city interference, I wonder how much money really needs to be committed to start THH restoration? Pick a number between 0 and 20 million.
How is it that all propsoals were deficient for this same reason. When everyone flunks there might be something wrong with the test.

Let me get this strait, you could have moved anywhere after retiring and you choose terre haute? Although I commend your loyalty but why terre haute? The hulmans destroyed this twon years ago, now The "King of the dump" is in the position to do the same. I believe money does last a lot longer here but damn, why waist time on this backward, poor policy town?
