Witnessed

at the Coffee Grounds last night.

The table is too small for the four chairs and the young people are seated at it squarely as if playing bridge. I ignore their conversation even though I am very close to them until Miss North (declarer) says in a bell-like voice:
you (indicating the young man in the west seat) have goals much like mine - to do good by becoming a teacher. We have that in common. (She smiles and her lips part showing perfect teeth and her root-beer colored pony tail flips behind her as she turns her head to the young man in the east seat and continues without pause.) You expect to earn 2 or 3 hundred thousand a year in your chosen profession... (and she adds a twinkling eye to the dazzling smile).
(Then she looks straight ahead to her partner in the south chair.) It makes me wonder what I'm doing with you.

They all laughed lightly, finished their lattes and as they exited, I saw South slip his hand down her side until it rested on North's ass.

It made me think of the ladder theory.
