Changes in Season. Posted by Hello

On this 24th of September, a "just right" time Indiana squeezes between its too hot and too cold seasons, one of my friends wants one more kayak trip; another admits "trying to pretend that I am comfortable in a short sleeve shirt and walking shorts on this brisk cool day because it will be time to pack them away all too soon." It's a little like the picture above. I drew the east shade just before sunrise and saw the moon sliver directly above the peak of my neighbor's house. I knew that the rising sun would make the moon fade into the blue sky so I snapped the picture through the window and the screen trying to hold onto time. I join those who struggle against inevitable change.

Another reaction to change is to look ahead, to try to gauge how warm the sun will be at high noon or how cold the winter is likely to be when it comes. Folks love to predict. My friend, Darlene, claims she's seen "several black caterpillars and if you believe in folklore that means a hard winter." I join those looking ahead - perhaps not all the way into a bleak winter but to late fall when, as my friend Bryce says, "Indiana will soon put on it spectacular fall show and it is a beautiful time to be home in Indiana.

But for now, I delight in watching the moment the moon disappears in the morning sun and the beans turn brown and the animals scurry.
