Newport IN Antique Car Hill Climb
As an embedded reporter on the Hoosier front knee deep (at least) in Americana at Newport Indiana, the county seat of Vermillion County, I watch old people race older automobiles
up a hill for the glory of it;
watch the fall colors just before the trees turn: red
tan,
tan over red,
yellow,
green,
and blue.
You can buy a car on the court house steps or buy a french fried onion bloom.
Inhale exhaust fumes, soak up town spirit.
In the "discontinued models" classification...
...a bicycle built for 26...
look back one more time at the cars of the past
and say goodbye to Newport until next year.

God bless those crazy Shriners. I've driven past the signs on highway 41, many times, but never made the festival.
