By Definition. Here we are, not two miles from the house where my wife lived on the night of our first date, not 8 miles from mine. We’ve bought one of the new houses Fred the builder has installed in his cornfield one mile north of Otter Creek Junction.
It’s been ten weeks. The curtains were hung last week and there are very few unpacked boxes in closets and in the garage. From the outside, you can tell we’re new here by the lack of shrubs, flowers and trees but on the inside, it feels like home. It has always felt like home here in Terre Haute, the Wabash Valley and western Indiana.
I plan to explore and record my findings. By definition, any house, street, tree or pond that I recognize after 40 years of being away is a memory. I can see it with a critical eye and measure it against all my previous experience and I might remember something because of it. I’ll tell about that. I’ll see some new stuff and I might recall what it has replaced and tell about that too.
I’ll continue this as long as it interests me.
